2011-2012 Recipients
Part Time Students:
Juanita Dueno
Attends HACC Lancaster Campus where her major is Radiologic Technology. She will taking the Phlebotomy Clinical Program beginning fall 2011. Volunteer service at the EUP Latino GALA and Silent Auction.
Marleny Milanes
Attends HACC Harrisburg Campus where she pursues a major in Elementary Education and later will specialize in teaching English as a Second Language. She volunteered during the summer with the EUP Summer Camp Hablando Espanol. Marleny is a second year recipient of the EUP Scholarship.
Nelson I. Caldero
Attends HACC Lancaster Campus where his major is Social Services. His long term goal is to go for a Master Degree in Counseling with a certification to work with addictions. His volunteer service with EUP will be done during the EUP Latino GALA and Silent Auction.
Araceli Ponce
Attends HACC Gettysburg Campus, where her major is Business Management . Her intention is to specialize in Human Resources. When she can, she volunteers at her children’s schools. She will volunteer for the EUP Latino GALA and Silent Auction.
Deborah Y. Dayton
Attends HACC Gettysburg Campus where her major is Register Nursing. When she has the time she volunteers at her son’s school and with the American Red Cross. Her goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner.
Ingrid Veracruz
Attends HACC Lebanon Campus where her major is Pre-Nursing. She holds an EKG Technician Certification. Along with her son she volunteers at the Lebanon Free Clinic as an EKG Technician and as a receptionist. With EUP she will volunteer for the EUP Children’s’ Christmas Party event.
Full Time Students:
Amanda M. Batista
Amanda completed an AA Degree in Criminal Justice at HACC Harrisburg Campus, transferred to Penn State University Capital Campus where she will be a senior this fall. Her major is Criminal Justice with a minor in Women Studies. Through the years she has volunteered extensively with EUP.
Joshe Ordonez
Attends HACC Harrisburg Campus. The program she follows is Business Administration to major in Accounting when she transfers next year to Penn State University Capital Campus. Her long term goal is to become a CPA. She volunteers at her children’s schools, at church and with people in need in the Latino community.
Maxwell J. Aleman
Attends Ithaca College in New York. His major is Music Education and Viola/Violin Performance. His long term goal is to become a Youth Orchestra Conductor and/or teach music at an elementary school to be able to touch youth with music. He volunteers as a community musician. At the EUP Latino GALA and Silent Auction he will be performing as part of his volunteer service.
Alma L. Figueroa
She attends HACC Harrisburg Campus where she majors in Banking and Finance. Alma was a scholarship recipient last year reason for which she was able to continue her schooling; it helped her to pay for tuition and books. She volunteered with the EUP Summer Camp” Hablando Espanol”.
Emily E. Ortega
Emily attended HACC Harrisburg Campus fall 2009. She is a senior at John Hopkins University where she majors in Biology to move on to Medical School to become a physician and practicing researcher. She interned in a molecular biology laboratory at PSU Medical Center studying pancreatic cancer. She volunteers with Saint Baldrick Foundation which raises funding for childhood cancer research and with the Baltimore City Prison for Women doing GED preparation. She plays Varsity Field Hockey. Emily is one of last year’s EUP Scholarship recipients.
William G. Pena
A high school senior who graduated from Harrisburg Christian Academy. He will attend Messiah College starting fall 2011 where his intended major is Athletic Training. He volunteered with the 2011 Special Olympics. His volunteer service with EUP will be done for the EUP Latino GALA and Silent Auction.
Arturo San Juan-Martinez
Arturo was a recipient of the EUP Scholarship year before last. He attended HACC Gettysburg Campus and transferred to Penn State University, University Park Campus. His major is Education/Spanish; he pursues a second degree in Education/English as a Second Language. He volunteers in his community. He did volunteer service with EUP during the Latino Multicultural Picnic at the end of July 2011.
Karen P. Roman
She attended HACC Lancaster Campus and transferred to Millersville University where she is a senior expecting to graduate this year. Her major is Accounting, her long term goal is to become a CPA. She volunteers at her church doing bookkeeping . This is the second time she is awarded the EUP Scholarship. Last year she volunteered with EUP by working for the Children’s Christmas Party event both days. This year she volunteered during the EUP Latino Multicultural Picnic at the end of July 2011.
Rafael De Jesus
He started at HACC Harrisburg Campus where he completed an AA in Computer Information Technology. Rafael transferred to Penn State University Capital Campus where he graduated from with an Information Science Technology Bachelor degree. After many years working in this field with the State he was recently admitted to the PSU Hershey College of Medicine where he will further his studies towards a Master Degree in Science with a major in Public Health Sciences concentrating in research. He has been volunteering with the organization of the EUP Latino GALA and Silent Auction mentored by Dr. Oralia Garcia-Dominic.
Gerardo Lopez-Alvarez
High school senior from Chester County admitted to PSU University Park Campus for the fall semester. His major is Criminal Justice. Gerardo has volunteered extensively within his community for the last three years. Because of the many hours he has volunteered and achievements’ accomplished he was awarded the Bronze and Silver Congressional Medals.
